Hi! We’re Libby and Jaideep

We’re hoping to adopt!

Learn more about us by downloading and reading our adoption profile book.

We all are delighted to “meet” you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know us and considering all of us to be a family for your baby!

We found each other later in life, and adoption has always been something that we discussed from the very beginning.

We have always hoped for two kids, a kitty, and maybe a dog. After Benny (6) was born, we experienced infertility but knew that we always wanted Benny to have a sibling.

 OUR STORY, BY JAIDEEP

We met on a dating site where I suggested a meetup at a lecture the Art Institute of Chicago.

Libby was the first to reply and we found out that we had much in common (except bacon). I thought the first date went really well, but Libby didn’t, so it was quite a surprise to her that I enthusiastically called her to request a second date. Unlike my first proposal at the world’s largest truck stop, Libby accepted my subsequent proposal over breakfast in Vienna, Austria at our favorite coffee shop.

Benny is so excited to be an older sibling and is eager to meet their younger sibling!

Libby and I both grew up with loving and supportive families and are privileged to offer the same book- and fun-filled environment to our children. Being a biracial family allows us to combine and enjoy our very different traditions, which means double the holidays and gifts! We are so grateful that we get to celebrate these traditions with my parents and brother who all moved from San Diego to live near us in Michigan.

Our Traditions

While neither of us are very religious, we do like to celebrate the holidays of our childhoods. Having parents from two cultures means twice the holidays (and twice the presents!). We love putting up our Christmas tree with old family ornaments and opening presents and stockings on Christmas morning. In the fall, we eat massive amounts of Indian food and light little candles on the front walk for Dwali. In the spring, we leave little bags of candy on neighbors doorsteps for May Day and have a Holi party with our friends.

OUR HOME

We live in central Michigan with many parks and easy access to the Great Lakes.

Our favorite place inside the house is the “cozy place” with plenty of soft seating where we can see the birds at the bird-feeder during the day and the moon through the skylight at night. We host friends and family in our backyard where we have two authentic German biergarten tables. In just minutes in the cargo bike, we can all reach the playground nearest to us which has separate play sets based on age groups. There’s a local splash pad in the summer and a giant snow tubing hill in the winter.

The main street in our neighborhood is famous for its annual family-friendly Halloween parade. The elementary and middle schools are across the street from each other and about a 10 minute walk from our house. The high school is about a 20 min walk. We’re close enough to the downtown area that we can walk to restaurants (for crepes - our favorite breakfast!) and shops (our favorite used book store in town) and the local farmer’s market (during the summer on Sundays).

 FUN FACTS

About Libby

  • I love to sing and sang semi-professionally (which means sometimes you get paid!) in various a cappella groups.

  • We love to visit zoos wherever we travel. We’ve got a collection of patches from each zoo.

  • I am a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and used to live close enough to Wrigley to hear the fans (softly) cheering.

  • I love bacon. My friends often send bacon to me for my birthday. Being married to a vegetarian has been an education.

  • I’ve painted two public murals in Chicago. I take a sketchbook with me wherever I go.

  • Even though I love big cities, one of my favorite things is to spend a day or two at the Iowa State Fair.

  • We have a big cargo bike that fits as many as 4 kids or an adult and 2 kids in the bucket. I love seeing the smiles on people’s faces when they see us biking. So far, no college students have tried to jump in for a ride.

  • We got engaged in a coffee shop and married in a pie shop.

About Jaideep

  • I can’t live without Spezi, a German drink made of cola and orange soda.
