We’ve been looking forward to having children for as long as we’ve been married and because we were unable to conceive ourselves we knew adoption would be the way.
We realize this likely isn’t easy for you and admire your courage in making this thoughtful decision for your child’s future. We promise that we’ll be there for them, supporting their dreams, nurturing their talents, and sharing our joy with them every day.
ABOUT US
We first met in 2012 when Cassia suggested Rick join her to volunteer with the Nebraska FIRST LEGO League robotics tournament for grade school students.
Rick had just moved to Omaha for work, where Cassia was in medical school. As we started to get to know each other, Rick was surprised to realize that Cassia had worked for NASA and had a deep interest in human space exploration just like him. Cassia realized that Rick was also interested in science, technology, and space, but most importantly, was a great cook! We both quickly decided we had found someone special.
When we got married it was the beginning of a series of travel & scuba adventures. Cassia’s one requirement was that Rick join her as both her as both her scuba buddy as well as her life buddy.
Starting at mudholes in Iowa, we became an inseparable scuba diving team – working through Cassia’s lifelong bucket list of destinations including the Great Barrier Reef, the Galapagos Islands, Thailand, Fiji, and more!
OUR HOME AND FAMILIES
We’re both originally from the Midwest so we go back there often to visit family and friends. Several years ago when Cassia finished school, we moved to Arizona to be closer to family and for Cassia’s job doing medical testing. The cacti and plants of the desert are a big change from the lakes and trees in the heartland, but it is great to have nice weather year-round and be able to hike in the hills and mountains with our dogs.
We specifically found a home big enough for us and two children (our hope for the future) so that everyone can have their own personal space, play space, and outdoor space to relax or cool down in the pool on a hot summer day. The local parks, library, and schools a short walk away, make our home a great place to raise a family.

It has been great to have Cassia’s dad, stepmom, grandpa, aunt and uncle near us in town, we visit them all the time in the winter when they’re living in Arizona or visit them in the summer at their home in Wyoming (near their other grandkids). Cassia’s dad has become a frequent visitor to national parks now that he is retired, so he’s excited to take our kids on fun adventures in Wyoming.
We also love going to see Cassia’s mom in Colorado, where she always finds great hikes and events to attend with us. Rick’s parents, grandparents, and siblings live in Minnesota, so we try to go there as often as we can – especially in spring and fall when the weather is nice. Both of us really enjoy visiting the Minnesota state fair in the fall or visiting Rick’s parents’ lake cabin up north, which would be a great adventure with kids as well!
Rick has 2 younger siblings, Jamie and John, and Cassia has an older brother, Court, who are also excited that our family is growing and will enjoy having fun with our kids.
